List of foods to never eat.
When you’re trying to lose weight, following a proper diet and exercising are the most important components. However, you may be working against your efforts if you’re still choosing to eat certain foods. The foods mentioned below have no value to your health and can also derail your diet plans. So, if you’re ready to take charge of your weight, these are some of the foods to never eat.
1. White Bread:
While there are some great whole grain breads out there today, white breads don’t add any value to your diet. In fact, they’re pretty much the opposite of what you need on a diet. Your body breaks down and absorbs white bread rapidly so you get a quick sugar rush but then your blood sugar drops rapidly and you’ll be hungry again within an hour or two. So, while white bread may seem appealing, it’s not going to help you feel full and it also does not contain any nutrients. In fact, just 100 grams is about 361 calories and 73 grams of carbs. So, avoid white bread whenever possible.
Sugary filled sodas are one of the worst dietary choices you can make. There’s more sugar in a bottle of your average soft drink than you’d get from eating a cookie. In fact, a 335 ml can of Coke contains 160 calories, and 42 grams of sugar. However, unlike most foods which help you feel satisfied, you can drink a huge amount of calories and sugar from soda and still feel hungry for an entire meal. This may lead you to choose diet sodas instead. However, artificial sweeteners may not be the best choice. They don’t cause satisfaction and can actually increase your craving for sweet foods. Instead of choosing sodas that are either sweetened with sugar or sugar substitutes, make a safer choice and stick to healthy beverages like water, fruit juices, and low-fat milk. If you want something a little more exciting, look for unsweetened seltzer water or add fresh fruit slices to your water. You’ll get great refreshment without any of the disadvantages.
3. Processed Snacks:
Other foods to never eat are processed snacks. It may be tempting to reach for a bag of chips or pretzels, but these highly processed foods are full of ingredients that can not only harm your health, but also these are foods that make you gain weight. For example, the ingredients in most chips are potatoes and oil accompanied by a long list of preservatives. These compounds add flavor to your foods but they also come with health risks. In some cases, we don’t know every ingredient that can be harmful but a diet that’s high in processed foods has been warned against by health experts. These foods are also low in nutrients. When foods go through processing, they’re stripped of their natural nutrients, which make them poor choices for snacks. This means that you’re not getting any benefits from most of your vending machine choices.
There are some good natural snacks available which don’t come highly processed, but you’re probably better off choosing real foods for snacks. For example, whole foods like fresh fruits and vegetables paired with a serving of low-fat cheese make a great snack and will be satisfying as well as nutritious. When you’re trying to lose weight, you’re better off choosing this option.
4. White Potatoes:
While sweet potatoes are a great source of fiber and other nutrients, you don’t get many nutrients from white potatoes. Also, cooking white potatoes strips them of most of their nutritional value anyways, so they’re not a great choice for nutrition. Similar to white bread, white potatoes are easily broken down and released as sugar into your bloodstream where they cause a quick burst of energy followed by a sharp downturn. Just one large white potato has 254 calories and 58 grams of carbs. While you could choose to have some potatoes in your diet, you’re much better off choosing to have a sweet potato or a non-starchy vegetable. Looking for higher-fiber options ensures that you won’t feel hungry while trying to lose weight.
5. Creamy Salad Dressing:
When you are incorporating salad as part of your daily diet, beware of your choices for dressing. Just a few tablespoons of creamy salad dressing contain more than 20 grams of fat. Even the most popular french dressing has 115 mgs of sodium. By making your own dressing, you will be reducing the amount of fat, calories and sodium. Simply use a teaspoon of olive oil, red wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar and sprinkle some garlic powder, oregano, sea salt and ground pepper.
These are just some of the foods to never eat and these are some of the primary reasons why you may be struggling to lose weight. However, if your diet does contain these foods, then you can make some beneficial changes by switching them out for more nutrient dense options such as fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein sources. By making these choices, you’ll be able to lose weight more effectively and also improve your health by enjoying healthy meals and snacks.
