However, it causes many health problems like high blood pressure, heart diseases and diabetes. There are many more methods like cardiovascular exercises, diet pills and diets that obese people choose, to help them lose their fat. Some of these methods give excellent results to some people; some others do not. People suffering from very severe obesity have been choosing surgery as an option to cure it. Thus, the fatal health issues due to obesity were effectively avoided, and gastric bypass surgery is one among them.

Gastric bypass surgery and gastric bypass diet

In gastric bypass surgery, the surgeons try and reduce the size of your stomach, and thus, the quantity of food, or the amount of calories you can consume is restricted. The stomach is restrained to the size of a walnut. Then, it is linked to the back portion of your small intestine. The reduced size of the stomach causes reduced intake of calories. This helps in bringing about weight loss. There are several stages to the gastric bypass diet.

Importance of gastric bypass diet

Effect of the Diet

Gastric bypass diet is essential following the surgery. The diet helps to protect the change in structure of your digestive system, and to heal surgical site. The diet protects you from the harm caused to the stitches during surgery. When the size of the stomach is reduced, the quantity of food that it can hold is also reduced. So, you would begin to feel full very soon.

Diet before gastric bypass diet surgery

Before the surgery you might have to go through some gastric bypass diet, for better results after the surgery. This diet plan before the surgery helps you to adapt to your new diet plans after the surgery. This pre-surgery plan includes low calorie food stuffs. This would make your body lose some weight before the surgery. Normally patients lose about eight percent weight in this way.

As a result of the diet, your surgical site gets healed quickly. The diet also helps your body to get accustomed with new eating habits. You begin to lose weight and the complications of the surgery, as well as its side effects are reduced.

Gastric bypass diet after surgery

After the gastric bypass surgery, your eating habits would go for a very drastic change. Your diet would then consist of food items that have high protein contents and low cholesterol levels. You diet would provide reduced levels of fats and fibers too. Protein helps to heal your surgical site. Fats, fibers and sugars are difficult to digest, and so, the diet plan includes lesser amounts of them.

This food restriction does not provide your body with the important vitamins and minerals, and so, you would need to take supplements to provide the essential nutrients.

Gastric Bypass Diet Stages

The gastric bypass diet includes three stages. In the first stage, which lasts for a day or two, you can consume only liquids that have less sugar in them. The liquids that are normally consumed are broth or soup, low fat milk, sugarless gelatin, and soups that are strained. You should sip the liquids gently.

Gastric Bypass Diet 2nd Stage
