High calorie foods you should be aware of.
High calorie foods are sometimes obvious, but other times they are surprising to many people! If you’re not familiar with what the ingredients are in some foods, then you could easily end up eating a very high calorie food that you thought would be good for you. If you want to take your diet more seriously and eliminate those foods that could be increasing your waist line, then take a look at the list below. It has examples of different high calorie foods that could end up easily causing you to gain weight without you even realizing it.
Did you know that 3/4 cup of DRY pasta is around 210 calories, and that most people eat triple that amount when they enjoy a pasta meal? It’s extremely important to measure out your portions when you’re eating pasta, or you could be going into a high-calorie and ultra-high carbohydrate meal without even realizing it. Add in nutritionally dense vegetables to fill yourself up, and you will be much better off in the long run.
2. Sandwich Wraps:
If you’re trying to be healthy, then a sandwich wrap might be something on a menu that you feel comfortable eating. What you might not realize is that these can actually be just as bad as regular sandwiches, if not worse! The average tortilla used for a wrap has around 250 calories in it, and then mayo or another sauce is spread on top of that. When you add in cheese and the rest of the fillings, you could easily be eating 600 calories just in that one wrap, and that’s without fries.
Tip: Lighten up your wrap by asking for a whole wheat tortilla and dressing on the side. Also, look to see if there is a veggie wrap alternative, which will be far fewer calories than ground beef or other proteins.
3. Hummus and Bread:
Hummus is an excellent snack because it’s full of fiber, protein and healthy fats, but too much of it isn’t a good thing. Not only do a lot of restaurants serve very large portions of this, they also serve it with large portions of pita bread with it. This can mean one appetizer easily being over 1,000 calories, if not more.
Tip: Slim down hummus by asking for vegetables instead of pita bread. Carrots, celery and tomatoes all taste great with any flavor of hummus.
4. Morning Pastries:
These are just some of the foods you should never eat. Before you take a bite of any baked good, think about whether or not it’s worth the calories. Just one donut is generally well over 300 calories, and that will increase if you’re eating something with chocolate chips or sprinkles on it. Even muffins are high calorie foods that can pack over 500 calories in ONE! If you really must have one of these, then go for a half serving instead of the entire thing.
5. Protein Bars:
A lot of people snack on protein bars when they are trying to lose weight, and this actually ends up causing them to weigh more! Did you know that the average protein bar is actually over 250 calories? While it might be a good source of protein, it’s generally going to be high in sugars as well as carbohydrates. Always read the nutrition label on the protein bar that you’re eating in order to make sure it’s not going to ruin your diet.
If you drink a smoothie while you’re out running errands or shopping, you might think you’re making a healthy decision. This is surprisingly not the case, as most smoothies from restaurants are over 500 calories. This is because they generally use high-calorie fruit juices along with added sugars to increase the flavor.
Tip: If you want a healthy smoothie, then look for something without added sugars, and that has naturally sweet fruits in it. Also look to see if you can add spinach or flax seeds to increase the nutrition.
If you indulge in nuts as a snack, you could be hindering your weight loss without even realizing it. While nuts are a great source of protein and healthy fats, they are very high in calories. It’s very important to eat only one serving of your favorite nut, and to make sure it’s not roasted with sugar.
Have you been eating any of these high calorie foods without realizing it? Most people do, and that’s a big reason why so many people have a hard time losing weight. If you want to succeed, then remember to measure out your portions and in order to have a healthier grocery list, always read the labels of the nutritional facts before buying them.
