How to lose inches in five easy ways.
Of course you want to see the scale move down when you’re trying to lose weight, but you also want to see your clothes fit better as well! Losing inches is generally the ultimate goal of weight loss, whether you want to lose it on your chest, stomach, arms, legs or anywhere else. Unfortunately, you can’t spot where these inches come from, and that can prove to be frustrating with the goals that you’ve set. But, if you persevere and work hard, you may see that you lose fat all over your body, including those spots that you want to target. How can you ensure that you are losing inches? Here are some easy tips on how to lose inches!
1. Watch Sodium Levels:
Sodium can make you incredibly bloated, even if you’re eating healthy foods all day long. Keep track of the amount of sodium you eat, and make sure it’s under 1,500 mg per day. If you have a hard time keeping count, then consider using an app on your smartphone like MyFitnessPal, which will show you how many milligrams you’re consuming as you log your foods. Once you start cutting down on this, you may notice that your clothes fit better and that you feel better in general as well.
If you want to lose inches at all, you have to get up and become more active. Fortunately, there are many different ways you can exercise, whether it’s through taking a walk during your lunch break or joining a dance class at your local gym. Find a few things that you enjoy and alternate between them throughout the week so that you don’t get bored of just one routine. How much should you exercise? That depends on what is right for your lifestyle, schedule and health. In general, 30 minutes per day is a great goal to set, but speak to your doctor to make sure this is right for you, especially if you’re facing health challenges.
While cardio is something you should aim to do on a daily basis, also keep in mind that weight-bearing exercises are going to be extremely useful. These will help you build muscle so you become leaner and get rid of fat all over your body. Just because you do these types of exercises doesn’t mean you’re going to bulk up, so don’t avoid them for that reason. Push-ups, pull-ups and kettlebell squats are all great muscle-building exercises that can help you shed inches.
3. Drink Water:
Another ideal way of knowing how to lose inches is simply drinking more water. If you don’t keep yourself hydrated with enough water, then your body is going to hold onto as much of it as possible. Try and drink water as your only beverage instead of sugary sodas or other drinks that aren’t good for you. If you don’t like water that much, then add in some lemon for flavor, or even go with an unsweetened tea. As you continue to drink more water you will bloat less, and you will feel better because you’re more hydrated! Most people lose several inches all over their body when they start drinking more water, and really do notice it within a short amount of time.
4. Take Measurements:
Because your body loses inches in different spots, you should make sure to take measurements all over your body every couple of weeks to track your progress. This is important, because you could be losing inches from your thighs, however you wouldn’t know that if you’re only looking at your stomach measurements. Try and measure around your waist, bust, stomach, hips, neck, shoulders, thighs and calves every couple of weeks, and write down your results. That way you can see real evidence that you’re losing inches, and can keep track of the total as you progress.
5. Eat Healthier:
Focus on eating more natural foods rather than those that come out of a box or bag. This means eating fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, lean meats and protein drinks. All of these things are great for you, and provide your body with the essential nutrients that it needs to simply keep you alive on a daily basis. Cutting out processed foods, sugars and simple carbohydrates (like flour, rice, bread, pastries) might be difficult, but eating foods that are low in fat will pay off. If you must have them, then eat them in moderation and try and eat them with healthy proteins.
By doing the above tips, you’ll know how to lose inches naturally and become healthier. Not only will you see progress when you look at your measurements, you will also see progress when you try on your clothes. This will make you feel great and help you forget about the number on the scale.
