4 Causes of Antisocial Personality Disorder

Being a Sociopath is a mental health disorder called Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD). A person having this order is called a sociopath. It is a specific mental condition in which the patient violates the common social rules and regulations. He feels satisfied when he manipulates the rights of other people. He becomes addicted to the activities against the law, human rights and community parameters. He does the things which are forbidden and punishable. He may steal, lie, fight or rob. Every person that likes to be a criminal may come in the category of sociopath.

Causes

The exact causes of sociopath (antisocial personality disorder) have not been detected yet. There are some conclusions made from the history records of some sociopath persons. It is a natural attitude which actually goes against natural rules. No virus, bacteria, germ or any other type of organism is known to be the cause of antisocial personality disorder. Similarly no special enzymes or chemical activities have been specified in this regard. However some genetic and environmental factors have been seen effective in the sociopath persons. Dr. Martha Stout, in her book, “The Sociopath Next Door,” clarifies that a genetic tendency for being sociopath may already be there at birth for a few persons. It may be called a genetic factor.

1. Genetic Factors

Dr. Stout says in her book “Indeed a person’s tendency to possess certain sociopathic characteristics is partially born in the blood”. She explains that the personality is made from the birth. Some persons are made by birth. They bring their personality along with them while they come in the world. In other words you can say that a sociopath person may be a sociopath by birth. It is a common observation that some people become criminal even if they are grown in a civilized society. They are trained to be a respected person but they always tend to be a rule breaker and finally they get mature in the crime field. The only thing that can be understood is that “they were criminal by birth”.

2. Environmental Factors

The environment may be a cause of Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD). When a person in his early childhood is exposed to some violations, his soft brain accepts it adversely and turns him on the wrong ways. Even in mature age, some people have very sensitive and easily moldable mind. They adversely accept the effect of the environment. Some of certain environmental factors may affect his psyche and turn him into sociopath. We can say that the sociopathy may be the outcome of the person’s life experience.

3. Co-Relation of Genetic and Environmental Factors

A combination of the genetic and environmental factors can produce Antisocial Personality Disorder. There may be a sociopath behavior by birth but at miner stages and just turning to the right way. There appear some environmental factors that go against his perceptions about the righteous path. The already half ASPD brain accepts the environmental factor in his own point of view and leads him towards the complete Antisocial Personality disorder making the person a pure sociopath.

4. The Brain Attitudes

The studies show that the brain of a sociopath person reacts different than that of a normal person. The brain of a normal person reacts fast in case of an emotional conversations and instant problem. While in the sociopath person the researchers find equal response for emotional and non emotional words and incidents. The experiments show that there occurs, comparatively, a great blood flow to the analyzing brain part in a sociopath person’s brain than that of a normal person. It means that the brain structure is somewhat different for a sociopath and a common individual. Here stout looks exactly right that the Antisocial Personality Disorder may be by birth.

Some other disorders like attachment disorder also lead to the antisocial personality disorder.
